Level adjustments

A routine's final score out of 100 includes an adjustment for the level it is entered into, so newer dancers compete against a gentler bar. The adjustment is added after the four weighted criteria are combined, and the final score is capped at 100.

Novice

+10

points added to the final score

Intermediate

+5

points added to the final score

Advanced

+0

no adjustment — the full bar

Example: a Novice routine whose Technique, Performance, Entertainment and Choreography scores combine to 84.00 earns a final score of 94.00 — a High Gold award.

How Routines Are Judged

Each criterion is scored 0–10 by every judge, then weighted into the final score out of 100.

Technique

40%

Proper alignment, stretched feet, posture, stretched knees, placement, and overall command of technical elements.

Performance

25%

Transitions, fluidity, texture, and strength of movement throughout the routine.

Entertainment

20%

Facial expressions, connection to the mood of the music, and sustained energy from start to finish.

Choreography

15%

How effectively the dancer executes the choreography given, and how clearly the intent of the movement reads.
